Following the devastating Mahanadi river flood of 1982, a group of motivated youths in the community of Banki organized to provide relief and rehabilitation to the flood victims. While these activities continued for over four years, the need to tackle the root environmental and social causes of this tragedy was keenly felt. In 1986 the group formally registered under the name Pallishree or the Organisation for Community Development. Over the past twenty years, Pallishree has implemented numerous projects including watershed protection, environmental education, capaciity building and women’s empowerment.
